HOW TO CUT FREE FITTED A SHAPE GOWN
Drafting and cutting of free fitted A shape gown is the simplest one, compared to other types of gowns like fitted gown, six pieces a line gown among others.
You can sew and wear A shape gown without putting any zip at the back because its a free fitted is not a complete fitted dress.
The working tools you are going to need for drafting and and cutting of free fitted A shape gown are as follow :-
1.. Tailors chalk
2.. Scissors
3.. Measuring tape
4.. Straight ruler.
And the measurement i will use for this tutorial is :-
…shoulder -16
...burst 40
...under burst
…shoulder thunder burst
...full length
Now let’s start
Firstly after you carry your fabric whether it is african wax or it is material or even shadda.
What you will do first is you will start by measuring the full length of the gown and add 2 inches ( this 2 inches is for the bottom folding and seam allowance)
After that use your scissors and cut , then divide that into two, then fold and spread it on the table like this.
There is no deed to leave a zip allowance because we are not going to put any zip at the back, but if you want to put then you leave 1 ½ inches on the back part.
After that use your ruler and chalk to draw horizontal lin, which is our shoulder line, draw under burst line, draw as you can see in the fixture below
Measure 9 inches From shoulder to burst point measure and mark it,
Measure 17 inches from shoulder under burst and mark it,
Now we are going to start inserting the burst measurement and drafting the pattern.
On the shoulder line measure 8 ½ inches and mark, on the burst line, the burst is 40 soi will divide 4o by 4 which will give us 10;now measure 1o inch on the burst line and add 2 inches for the allowance and it with chalk,
Follow the same method on the under bust line, the measurement is 36 so 36/4 will give us 9, then measure 9 and add 2 inches for the allowance and mark it.
For the bottom of the gown you can measure any inch you like, I will measure 20 on this one I am cutting.
Now i will use chalk and connect the burst with the under burst and connect the bottom with the under burst, and the pattern of the gown will be like this
On the shoulder line measure 4 inches for the neck depth and measure for the neck height, use the chalk and draw the neck shape like this (the neck is round neck)
We now finished drafting A shape gown, use your scissors and cut according to the pattern
I will now show you how to draft and cut the sleeve ( the sleeve is pencil sleeve)
Fold and spread the remaining fabric on top of your table as you can see the picture below
Then measure the full length of the sleeve and add 1 ½ inches and mark with chalk,
From the top of the sleeve measure 4 inches downward and mark, and then measure again from top of the sleeve 10 inches downward (this is where i will measure round sleeve measurement) and add 2 inches allowance.
Now use your chalk and draft the sleeve pattern like this,
and then use scissors to cut,
That is all.
